Feldenkrais Brighton

Workshops

Workshops are an opportunity to take your experiences of a weekly class a little further or deeper. They are also a good introduction to the Feldenkrais Method.

I usually choose a theme evolving from my classes or in which I am particularly interest in at present.

I believe there are similarities between the Feldenkrais Method and Psychotherapy. In my understanding both approaches aim to help people become more aware of how they feel and act so that people can develop greater choice in the way they function. In the Feldenkrais Method the tool for this self-inquiry is movement. By observing and sensing our individual ways of holding ourselves and moving, we gain greater clarity of how we organise ourselves in various situations, including our work environment. Our work often dictates the movements we do and repeat; we might have to sit for a prolonged time or use our hands, arms and shoulders in a particular way. Over time this can lead to habituated movements which may no longer feel comfortable.

As sitting and the organisation of the shoulder girdle seem particularly pertinent in your profession, I intend to teach lessons to make these activities easier, more comfortable and more sustainable. There will be some movement explorations in sitting and also in lying on the floor and you should be able to transfer the learning from this workshop into your daily life and work.
