After suffering from back pain for several months while working as a midwife, I ended up with a prolapsed disc. It was a severe prolapse, affecting my bladder and bowel control, and I could hardly walk due to severe pain in my left leg and numbness in my left foot. The hospital doctor said I'd probably never establish full sensation in my left foot again, and certainly wouldn't be able to do ballet!
I was referred to an NHS physio who helped me for a few sessions and advised me to do Pilates which reinforced what my body was already doing- tensing my abdominal muscles to protect my lower back. My back pain remained and I often felt so helpless.
I tried Hatha yoga which did help. I found Sabine's card outside the Yoga studio. I was struck at how carefully and sensitively Sabine listened to my history. From that first class the Feldenkrais Method made perfect sense. I felt so comfortable with Sabine and her clear, gentle, non-judgemental and encouraging approach. Small and simple movements had an immediate effect in releasing back tension and relieving the pain. Gradually I was able to establish a greater range of movement throughout my entire back.
Since practising Feldenkrais over the last 4 years I know what to do when I get back pain. I'm now back in charge of my body. I can really enjoy activities I didn't think I'd ever be able to do easily again, like cycling, gardening, running and dancing- including a few adult ballet classes which I did last year! I have been so intrigued with the beneficial effects of the Feldenkrais Method, that last year I enrolled on the UK Feldenkrais training.

I began Feldenkrais with Sabine about 2 years ago on the advise of my massage therapist. I had injured my back a year previous to this and had spent a fortune on manual therapies such as chiropractic and massage which would offer me some relief but the pain would soon come back.
I am a personal trainer and had always done very physical exercise so was quite skeptical about how movements so small and easy could help me. However, after the very first class I went to I noticed how differently I walked and carried myself up the hill from the Natural Health Centre. I had always held myself so rigid to protect my back, thus creating more tension and pain.
I would not say it had been an instant transformation but over time I have changed how I move in every situation without even noticing it! My back has improved considerably and I am able to do a lot of things that the pain used to stop me from doing.
Sabine is a fantastic teacher with a very calm manner and the most relaxed shoulders I have ever seen! I thoroughly enjoy my weekly class with her, seeing it as an hour or so in my busy week to completely relax and to treat myself.

Having joined Sabine's class last April, I have experienced great general benefit from learning the Feldenkrais Method. In particular, I have discovered how to reduce lower back pain, which I have been living with for twenty years. The movements are so gentle that I really enjoy the class.
The group atmosphere is peaceful and supportive and Sabine is able to help each person according to their individual needs. I feel the Feldenkrais Method is the key to a better quality of life and it helped me to improve my ability to manage a range of ailments and disabilities in a positive way.

My daughter Heloise, who is disabled and has severe learning difficulties, has been having Feldenkrais lessons with Sabine for 3 years. She had stopped progressing with her mobility and had got stuck into unhelpful habits with her posture.
With Sabine's input Heloise has made remarkable progress with her mobility, her range of movements, her fine motor skills and her posture has improved. She has developed confidence in her mobility and can now take a few steps.Sabine always treats Heloise with respect and sensitivity, and always connects with her in a positive and constructive way, no matter how little she wishes to contribute to the session. I have no doubt that Feldenkrais, and Sabine as its practitioner, has contributed greatly to improving the quality of my daughter's life and increasing her enjoyment of it.
